|Circles, sliding stops and spins were the order of the day at the South Point Equestrian Center in Las Vegas, Nev., as National Reined Cow Horse Association Stakes competitors showed in the first phase of preliminary competition, the rein work.In the Stakes Open, two horse-and-rider combinations scored a 222 to lead the results sheet. The first horse to earn that score was Hickory Holly Time (One Time Pepto x Hickorys Holly Cee x Doc’s Hickory), shown by Kelby Phillips, Tonopah, Ariz., and owned by Garth and Amanda Gardiner, Ashland, Kans. They worked in the second set of the morning, and no one matched that score until set seven, when Magicality (Very Smart Remedy x Magical Lena x Little Lenas Legend), shown by Anne Reynolds, King Hill, Idaho, and owned by Reynolds mother, Joyce Pearson, also earned a 222.

In the Intermediate Open, Real Smooth Cat (Smooth As A Cat x Real Plain Jane x Real Doc), a 2009 stallion shown by NRCHA Hall of Fame horseman Ken Wold, Wilton, Calif., and owned by Daniel Perez, had the day’s high rein work score, a 219.
Topping the Limited Open division with a 218.5 is Red Hot Jade (Smart Little Pepinic x Miss Nica Dual x Mister Dual Pep), a 2009 gelding shown by Cody McArthur for owners Bart and Terri Holowath.
In the Level 1 Limited Open, two horses earned identical 215.5 scores to lead the division: Coloradoboonsmal (Peptoboonsmal x Miss Playboys Josie x Freckles Playboy), shown by Keith Vogel for owner Ted Swanson; and Full Throttle Pepnic (Smart Little Pepinic x Peppys Rockin Angel x Hot Peppy Doc), shown by Dan Daponde and owned by John Scheck.

Stakes Non Pro Leaders
In the Stakes Non Pro, Tammy Jo Hays, Nocona, Texas, turned in a 217 score aboard her 2013 Stakes Non Pro Champion horse, Two Kitties (Smooth As A Cat x SR Jaguar x Doc O’Lena) to lead the division. Hays owns the 2009 mare in partnership with her father, Walter Greeman.
The top spot on the Intermediate Non Pro and Novice Non Pro results sheet belongs to Bubba Petty, Roseburg, Ore., who rode Pepinics Lil Outlaw (Smart Little Pepinic x Pand Delight x Grays Starlight) to a 216.5 score. Petty owns the 2010 gelding with his wife, Nicole.
In the Stakes Amateur division, Wilder Jones, King Hill, Idaho, claimed the high score, a 217.5, aboard Cat Can Do Magic (High Brow Cat x Magical Lena x Little Lenas Legend), a 2009 mare owned by his grandmother, Joyce Pearson.
The Stakes Non Pro Limited rein work leader was Nicole Petty, Roseburg, Ore., aboard Tangy Chexinic (Tangys Classy Peppy x Buenos Double Okie x Bueno Chexinic), a 2010 gelding she owns with her husband, Bubba.
